The RAISE-FS project is a four-year initiative aimed at transforming Ethiopia’s food system by championing demand-driven and interdisciplinary research. The project envisions a future where Ethiopia’s food system is resilient to environmental and economic shocks and inclusive of all stakeholders, particularly women, youth, smallholder farmers, and marginalized groups. It focuses on empowering rural communities to strengthen their livelihoods and contribute effectively to the food system. Specifically, the project aims to promote social and economic empowerment of women and youth, increase efficient and sustainable production, enhance sector performance and value chains, increase the availability of safe and nutritious foods, and enhance the enabling environment for system change.
With a focus on engaging youth in activities related to selected commodities, such as seed spices, oilseeds, potatoes, pulses, poultry, and food security crops, RAISE-FS aims to unlock innovative ideas and entrepreneurial ventures. Recognizing the potential of Ethiopia’s large and youthful population, the project seeks to address youth unemployment by empowering young people through various interventions and harnessing their energy and innovation for a more sustainable and inclusive food system. To further this goal, the project is seeking a consultant to conduct a comprehensive assessment of good practices and strategies for meaningful youth engagement in Ethiopian food systems, with the aim of ensuring that Ethiopian youth become active drivers of positive change within the nation’s food system.
